They say it’s impossible to move mountains, but they never say it’s impossible to light up a whole mountain. Well, Finnish Artist, Kari Kola, just did that! He captivated the whole of Ireland and the world by lighting the Connemara Mountains in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
Savage Beauty, as Kari Kola names his artwork, is inspired by Oscar Wilde’s poetic description of the landscape. The whole artwork is the largest site-specific installation with 1000 luminous and vibrant blue and emerald lights pulsating on the landscape reflecting the loch and illuminating the low-lying clouds.
It took several weeks to finish the installation. The lights were connected with a total of 20 kilometers of cables and 16 generators that were deposited by a helicopter. The installation was scheduled to run starting this Saturday until Tuesday but it was canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The production team, however, took a video of the lighting show for the public to see.
